## How Kai works

Kai is a communicator and pastor first, AI strategist by trade, and builder by practice. A decade in ministry, nonprofit leadership, and communications taught him to form ideas clearly, understand what an audience needs, translate across technical, business, and nontechnical conversations, and build trust and consensus.

That translation is central to his strategy work. He can move between executive priorities, organizational behavior, technical possibilities, and the practical decisions required to make change real. His approach is people-centered, mission-driven, iterative, and grounded in evidence.

## Core capabilities

### Enterprise AI strategy & governance

Kai shaped a long-term enterprise AI strategy covering strategic planning, workforce enablement, infrastructure, adoption, and governance. The work was informed by 75 stakeholder conversations and helped establish a more intentional AI operating model. He has also helped develop responsible-use policy and governance practices and lead conversations about risk, trust, and accountability.

### Applied AI & workflow transformation

Kai builds and tests AI-enabled systems himself. His work includes a hardened data pipeline covering 135k records, a scalable research agent, deterministic routing and preprocessing, confidence scoring, auditable logs, review gates, and multiple rounds of quality assurance. This practice helps him evaluate what AI can do, where it can fail, and what scaffolding an organization needs before relying on it.

### Executive education & change enablement

Kai translates AI for technical, business, and nontechnical audiences. He has taught groups ranging from individual leaders to a national Indeed webinar with 3,600 attendees. His work includes presentations, workshops, facilitated leadership sessions, policy and governance conversations, and practical support for teams learning how to use AI responsibly.

## AI Mode

Kai's AI Mode framework helps people and organizations choose an appropriate way to work with AI based on two questions:

1. Would you have noticed if the AI got something wrong?
2. Did you accept the AI's first answer at face value?

The answers locate the work in one of four modes:

- Real work: high knowledge and high engagement. Useful for developing stronger work in an existing area of expertise; difficult to scale when every output depends on expert attention.
- Delegating: high knowledge and low engagement. Useful for creating capacity when the result is easy to verify; repeated delegation can create complacency or erode skill.
- Learning: low knowledge and high engagement. Useful for upskilling, exploring, and finding blind spots; slower when time is limited.
- Vibe Prompting: low knowledge and low engagement. Useful for brainstorming, prototyping, and low-stakes answers; dangerous when untested work reaches people who depend on it.

The framework avoids treating any mode as universally correct. Knowledge, engagement, verification, and stakes determine the appropriate posture. The complete individual and organizational versions are prerendered in the [AI Mode section](https://kaiblakeborough.com/#ai-mode-title) and remain readable without JavaScript.
